Cable TV Troubleshooting

No installation will work perfectly as intended the very first time. Problems are to be expected, mismatch between system performance desired and the installation functioning at the beginning. The problems may be as simple as power supply not ON, or some connections being loose. Or the problems may be major and more intractable in trouble shooting such as an equipment performing below par, not as per performances it is designed for, say the dish is not giving the gain it should, LNB conversion frequency inaccurate or unstable etc. When the antenna system installation responsibility is that of the equipment supplier, Cable TV operator will face only minor easily identified problems, such as equipment not functioning, connections improper, cable breakage, satellite transmission not ON for any reason etc. These are easily tackled by commonsense troubleshooting methods without need for eleborate test/measuring facilities. However availability of a signal strength meter is an advantage, though not an inescapable necessity. The equipment supplier may be able to help here also. Some receivers have builtin Signal level meters, which helps. Once part of the distribution system is functioning properly; troubleshooting other faulty portions is relatively very easy, you start with the nearest functioning tapoff to locate the fault in the subsequent portions of the distribution system. When a system is properly installed and checked systematically, problems are few and easily rectified, provided quality equipment and materials have been used. Hence like in any other reputed enterprise, in cable TV operations too, quality means performance.
